Innocence by: Joanie Barfield

I remember how much we used to laugh,
On the bus and in the trailer park and everywhere in between
People used to look at us,
And we would just smile back,
Feeling like we had everything,
Each other and a Polaroid camera,
To remind us of it all.

I remember listening to the same recording 10 times over,
Just because we liked our voices,
And you fell asleep with your head on my stomach,
I knew I loved you like a sister then.

Reading old letters I still smile at your doodles,
The innocence you used to have,
When everything you needed was nearby,
It’s sad to read mine,
To see how strange I was at times.

But I still see the look on your face,
Outside on the trampoline or inside your house with the pale white walls,
I knew you’d never let me fall,
And I’ll never lose those lessons we taught each other.

I think at heart we’re still together,
Like all the stories we’ve written,
And when I see that familiar font,
I hold out hope that some things will never change.

You’ll always be more beautiful than you know,
Sharper and smarter than you see,
I’ll always be just myself,
Which was always good enough for you.

Remember that last time?
Pizza, lemonade, and those silly computer games?
And holding your hand in the dark when you got scared?
And teaching you how to stroke your blonde hair just right into a bun?

I know I’m the luckest girl in the world,
And that we were angels once,
and we will meet again as just that,
angels till the end <3
this is the same poem i had b4 i just did SOME MOAR updates on it <3
